3 Days in Langkawi: Sun, Scooters and Fire Shows!

Looking for a fun and adventurous way to spend three days in Langkawi before heading off to your next destination? Whether you’re a foodie, a beach lover, or just want to soak in the vibes, this itinerary is packed with must-dos, local tips, and some unexpected surprises. Here’s how we spent three action-packed days in Langkawi, leaving for Thailand on the fourth morning.

Day 1: Arrival and Beach Vibes

Arrival & Check-In
We arrived in Langkawi via AirAsia and hopped in a Grab (just $2.32 USD!) to Gecko Guesthouse—our cozy home base for the next three days. Once we checked in, we hit the streets in search of lunch.

Lunch at Yellow Beach Café
Since March is the slow season, a lot of restaurants were closed during the day (good to know if you’re visiting then). After wandering for a bit, we stumbled upon Yellow Beach Café, which had delicious food and incredibly friendly staff.

Chenang Beach & Local Vendors
After lunch, we headed to Chenang Beach. This spot is buzzing with local vendors, where you can shop for souvenirs, snacks, or just enjoy the laid-back vibe. The evening was supposed to end with one of the beach’s famous fire shows, but a surprise rainstorm rolled in and canceled the performance—something to keep in mind, as random rain showers are common here!

Dinner at Warung Mry
We wrapped up our first day with dinner at Warung Mry, conveniently located next to our hostel. Their chicken and sticky rice (just $1.80 USD) is simple, affordable, and absolutely delicious.

Day 2: Adventure-Packed Day on Two Wheels

Breakfast on the Go
We kicked off the morning with a refreshing smoothie from a local vendor ($3.15 USD) and grabbed breakfast at McDonald’s—since most places don’t open early during the low season.

Scooter Adventure & Sky Bridge
After breakfast, we rented a scooter from Langkawi Nice Scooter & Car Rental for $16 USD. Riding around on two wheels is one of the best ways to explore Langkawi! Our main stop was the famous Langkawi Cable Car and Sky Bridge ($18 USD), which offers jaw-dropping views of the island. Watch out for mischievous monkeys, though—they’re quick to snatch any snacks you might have!

Dinner at Hidden at Sunset
After a day of exploration, we made our way to Hidden at Sunset for dinner. The live music and stunning views made for a magical evening. Unfortunately, another rainstorm meant no fire show again, but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits! Instead, we grabbed milkshakes from a local vendor and headed back to our hostel for a chill night.

Ferry to Koh Lipe
Before bed, we booked our transportation to Thailand through the hostel: a ferry from Telaga Harbour Marina to Koh Lipe ($37 USD). Everything was set for the next leg of our adventure!

Day 3: Relaxation and Fire Show Finale

Morning Beach Time
We enjoyed a slow morning and headed to Chenang Beach early to avoid the midday heat. A couple of hours here, with a good book and the sound of waves, was the perfect way to start the day.

Brunch at Bang Dam Cenang
On the way back, we stopped at a hidden gem, Bang Dam Cenang, for brunch. We ordered an egg sandwich on homemade sourdough and roti prata with honey and Nutella, all for just $4 USD. The food was amazing, and the spot has a relaxed, local vibe we loved.

Evening & Fire Show Success
Once the evening rolled around, we headed back into town for dinner. While we don’t recommend the beachside pizza huts (ours was a miss), the night made up for it at Kalut Café n Bar. We lounged on bean bags, sipped on delicious mojitos ($7 USD), and finally caught the beach fire show we’d been waiting for. It was mesmerizing and a definite highlight of the trip!

Late-Night Sweet Treat
On our way back to the hostel, we couldn’t resist stopping at Bang Dam Cenang for another Nutella prata. The owner is a friendly local who shared stories about Langkawi’s culture, which was such a cool and unexpected experience.

Day 4: Off to Thailand!

After an early night, we woke up ready to catch our ferry from Telaga Harbour Marina to Koh Lipe, Thailand. While three days in Langkawi was plenty to see the highlights, I know there’s so much more to explore and can’t wait to come back someday!

Tips for Your Trip:

  • Expect Rain: Random rain storms happen often, so pack a light rain jacket or umbrella and be flexible with your plans.
  • Rent a Scooter: It’s the easiest and most affordable way to get around, plus you’ll get to see more of the island.
  • Support Local Vendors: From smoothies to roti prata, local food is not only cheap but absolutely delicious.
  • Plan for Slow Season Closures: If you visit in March or during the off-season, keep in mind that some restaurants and shops may be closed during the day.
