Hold on tight, folks—I’m about to embark on the ultimate New Zealand road trip, and you’re coming along for the ride! Over the next 10 days, I’m going to drive (a LOT), fly (a little), and probably have my jaw on the floor for most of the journey. I’m talking about some of the most stunning landscapes on the planet, plus a whole lot of adrenaline, outdoor adventures, and probably a few sheep sightings (because, New Zealand, right?).
So, buckle up, throw on your travel hat, and get ready for the wildest, most beautiful, and action-packed road trip of my life. Here’s the breakdown of what’s coming—spoiler alert: it’s going to be epic.
1. Fly into Queenstown & Drive to Te Anau – Let the Journey Begin! ✈️🚗
I’m landing in Queenstown late on day one, but I’m not about to waste any time—this trip isn’t about taking it slow! I’m picking up the rental car (because what’s a road trip without a car?), throwing on some tunes, and driving straight to Te Anau.
Te Anau is the gateway to Fiordland National Park (yes, it sounds fancy and yes, it’s going to be stunning). Spending a day in Te Anau, New Zealand, is like stepping into a postcard—stunning, serene, and bursting with adventure! Whether you’re strolling along the lakefront or soaking in the jaw-dropping views of the surrounding mountains, you’ll feel like you’ve entered a dream. And the best part? The laid-back, small-town charm. If you love nature, adventure, and a pinch of magic, Te Anau is an absolute must! 🌄✨
2. Day Trip to Fiordland National Park – Hello, Nature! 🏞️🌿
I’m diving right into the heart of Fiordland National Park, aka one of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful places on Earth. We’re talking towering mountains, deep fjords, and crystal-clear lakes. It’s the kind of place where you’re constantly saying, “Is this real life?”
I’m planning to hit up Milford Sound for a boat cruise—because, come on, when you’re surrounded by mountains that rise straight out of the water and waterfalls that literally take your breath away, you know it’s worth every second. I’ll be soaking in those views, snapping pics like a madwoman, and having serious envy about how this place seems like it was made for postcards.
3. Te Anau to Queenstown – Back to the Thrills! 🎢🌄
After a day of nature overload, it’s time to head back to Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand. This town is crazy cool, with adrenaline junkie activities around every corner—think bungee jumping, skydiving, and jet boating. I’ll be checking into my accommodation, grabbing a quick bite, and prepping for whatever wild ride Queenstown throws at me.
I’ll also be taking some time to explore Lake Wakatipu, because I’m here for those picturesque mountain backdrops. Plus, if there’s any time left, I’m hitting up the famous Skyline Gondola to get the best panoramic views of Queenstown—you know, the views that make you want to scream, “I’m living my best life!”
4. Queenstown to Wanaka – Wine, Views, and More Scenic Drives 🍷🚗
Today’s road trip is taking me from Queenstown to Wanaka, and let me tell you, this drive is going to be nothing short of magical. We’re talking about Lake Wakatipu on one side and snow-capped mountains on the other. I’m basically going to be in a constant state of “wow.”
Wanaka is known for its laid-back vibe, stunning lake views, and the iconic That Wanaka Tree. I’m planning on chilling and maybe doing a short hike to take in the view. But, spoiler alert: I’ll mostly be soaking in the good vibes and chill atmosphere this little gem of a town offers.
5. Wanaka to Aoraki / Mount Cook – The Road to the Top 🏔️🚶♀️
Next stop: Aoraki / Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. The drive there is going to be breathtaking, and once I arrive, I’m going to feel like I’m in some kind of Lord of the Rings movie (because let’s face it, New Zealand is the ultimate backdrop for any fantasy adventure).
While I’m here, I’m doing a day trip to Mount Cook, possibly tackling a short hike around Hooker Valley (yup, you read that), which has the kind of views that make you want to never leave. I might even pretend like I’m training for an epic summit—just to feel like an adventurer.
7. Aoraki to Christchurch – The Big City Adventure 🏙️🌳
Alright, time for a change of pace! I’m heading from the snow-capped peaks to the city life in Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island. Christchurch has that cool mix of modern city vibes and lush, green spaces. I’ll be checking out Botanic Gardens, exploring the quaint streets and maybe indulging in a little shopping.
And, because I’m here for the food as much as the views, I’ll be sampling some delicious bites. I’m thinking I might take a stroll around the Re Mall, a funky little pop-up mall built in shipping containers—because who doesn’t love unique shopping experiences?
8. Christchurch to Auckland – The Final Flight 🚀✈️
The trip is winding down, and I’m flying to Auckland for a quick stopover. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, and it’s way more cosmopolitan than I initially expected. I’ll spend the day soaking in the sights, probably visiting Auckland Harbour for that perfect waterfront vibe and maybe even checking out Sky Tower for those epic 360-degree views.
It’s a short day, but it’s perfect for catching a last glimpse of New Zealand’s urban side before my adventure comes to an end.
9. Fly Back to Los Angeles – Take Me Home, Kiwis! ✈️🇺🇸
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. On the final night of my trip, I’ll be flying back to Los Angeles, exhausted but completely fulfilled from this once-in-a-lifetime New Zealand road trip.
From mountains to lakes, road trips to flights, I’ve seen it all and loved every minute of it. If you’ve ever wanted a trip full of wild landscapes, pure adventure, and good vibes, then New Zealand is calling your name. Don’t worry—I’ll be sharing every amazing moment, so stay tuned for all the jaw-dropping, heart-pounding details of this epic journey.
Catch ya on the other side, Kiwis! ✌️🌏
